Sewing & Embroidery

In the Eternal City visitors can explore different schools of traditional embroidery — Samarkand, Bukhara Gold, Shakhrisabz, and Baysun.
Each has its own unique techniques, color palette, and symbolic patterns.

  • Samarkand embroidery – known for its large, expressive motifs, often featuring flowers, pomegranates, and sun symbols. It is characterized by bright, contrasting combinations of red, blue, and gold.
  • Bukhara gold embroidery – a luxurious technique where velvet or satin is decorated with golden and silver threads. It is often used for national robes, skullcaps, and decorative panels.
  • Shakhrisabz embroidery – distinctive for its dense stitching and rich colors. Patterns often include geometric shapes and floral motifs symbolizing abundance and harmony.
  • Baysun embroidery – more restrained in colors but rich in symbolism. Ancient motifs connected with nature and mythology are common, along with large stylized flowers.
During the workshop, guests will learn about the history and characteristics of each style, discover how materials are selected and patterns are applied.
Under the guidance of masters, participants will create a small fragment in their chosen technique and take the finished piece home.
