Shakhrisabz Embroidery

The art of Shakhrisabz embroidery has a long and rich history, with its own distinctive features.
In the past, its largest patrons were the beks’ and emirs’ courts.
For them, craftswomen created large and luxurious pieces — suzani, nim-suzani, robes, prayer rugs (joynamaz), and horse blankets. These works were made to order, and only small items could be kept by the embroiderers themselves.
The motifs of Shakhrisabz embroidery reflected the fashionable trends and refined aesthetic tastes of the patrons, who valued beauty and elegance.
It is believed that in the 14th century, Shakhrisabz embroidery came to this region from Iran and quickly became highly sought after.

Today, our workshop is led by Saodat and Nazira-opa — hereditary embroiderers.
Their family has been devoted to this craft since 1840, passing the skills from mother to daughter for seven generations.
Each stitch in their work is not just part of the pattern, but a living thread connecting centuries of tradition and love for their art.
