Jizzakh Embroidery & Carpet Weaving

Jizzakh embroidery is renowned for its large, bold patterns made in bright, contrasting colors.
Its motifs often include geometric figures, sun-like symbols, and floral designs.
Traditionally, embroidery was created with thick wool or cotton threads on dense fabric, which made it especially durable.
In the 19th–20th centuries, Jizzakh embroidery was widely used to decorate national costumes, dowry chests, and decorative panels in homes.

In the Eternal City, you can explore this ancient craft in the workshop of Marguba Nurmanova.
Born in 1981 in the Jizzakh region to a family of carpet weavers, she is a fifth-generation craftswoman with over 25 years of experience.
She continues the traditions of her ancestors, working with threads made from camel, sheep, and goat wool.In addition to carpets, Marguba creates unique embroideries and also handcrafts clothing and handbags.
Her family preserves other traditional crafts as well, such as leatherwork and the making of musical instruments.
At the workshop, guests can watch the process of creating carpets and embroidery, and also purchase handmade items as a memorable souvenir from Samarkand.
