Using cards and currency exchange
All payments and financial transactions in Uzbekistan must be conducted in the national currency, the Uzbek som (UZS), in accordance with national legislation.
Foreign visitors are advised to exchange their currency at banks or authorised exchange offices.
Only legally registered financial institutions are permitted to perform currency exchange operations.
Card payments
VISA – widely accepted at ATMs, hotels, restaurants, and shops.
Master Card – also broadly accepted alongside Visa.
UnionP ay – accepted in selected establishments, especially for Chinese visitors.
Local card systems
Local Card System: UzCard and HUMO are the two main national payment systems.
They are not typically usable by foreign visitors but dominate domestic transactions.
